Ricky Laahty
One of the best and best-loved carvers at Zuni.
Ricky Laahty is a great-nephew of the most famous Zuni carver of all time, Leekya Deyuse. Like Leekya, Ricky is an innovator and has become famous for his wonderful frog carvings with lifelike pearl shell eyes. Someone once asked Ricky how he manages to come up with so many different frog carvings. "The animal is already in the stone," he answered. "I just bring it out."
Tribe/Pueblo: Zuni
Ricky Laahty, Zuni azurite-malachite sea turtle.
This beautiful stone's natural shape makes a gracefully-swimming sea turtle. Turn him over to find a sea scene on the bottom! Layered pearl shell eyes...
