| Dextra Quotskuyva, great granddaughter of Nampeyo, is arguably the most famous Hopi potter living today. She has studied all the known pieces of Nampeyo and the old Sikyatki pots, in musuems and photographs, and has an encyclopedic memory of the designs. She takes these traditional designs and uses them in imaginative new ways, giving her pottery a look all its own. Her work is highly sought after and very difficult to obtain. Dextra is a generous teacher and has mentored such popular potters as Steve Lucas, Jacob Koopee, nephew Les Namingha, as well as her daughter Hisi Nampeyo and grandson Lowell Cheresposy. |
